Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed,
was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan)
who was a former actor and English teacher and Harry Hyra, a maths teacher.
Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German and German of German descent.
"Hyra" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name, is Ruthenian. Meg
graduated from Bethel high school, Bethel in June 1979. Meg moved to New York
and majored as journalist at New York University. In order to earn money while
working on her degree, Meg went into acting under her new name Meg Ryan. She
made her screen debut in 1981, making a brief appearance as Candice Bergen's
daughter in George Cukor's last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was a
candidate for auditions and was chosen to play Betsy on the daytime television
soap"As the World turns (1956). She was a part of the cast from 1982 until
1984. Meg also played a role in the television series One of the Boys (1982)
however, the show was later cancelled. She relocated to Hollywood in 1984, where
she was offered an opportunity to be a part of the western-themed television
show Wildside (1985). Meg's small part in the blockbuster movie Top Gun (1986)
led to her being part of Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) where she
co-starred with Dennis Quaid. In D.O.A.'s remake, she was a co-star with Dennis
Quaid. (1988) and they were wed on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg starred in
When Harry Met Sally... (1989), that made the scene at the restaurant famous.
Meg was nominated for the Golden Globe and the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred
with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three
roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She was back alongside Tom in the hugely
successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was nominated for the
Golden Globe. Meg chose to stand out from the trend in 1994, when she portrayed
the role of Meg's wife who is an alcoholic and mother "When a Man Loves a
Woman" (1994). Meg returned to her role as "cute" following the
film's release with I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1996). People Magazine voted
Meg as one of the top 50 most beautiful people on the planet 1994.
