Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina
Jolie Voight (born on the 4th of June, 1975 in Los Angeles, California), is an
American actor, director, and producer best known for her sex appeal , as also
her humanitarian work. Jolie is the daughter of actor Jon Voight, was raised in
New York. After her growing up, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she played
the part of the mental patient in Girl, interrupted (1999). After having
attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years ago, she
attended Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama.
She also acted in theatre productions as well as modeled for music videos. It
was in Hackers (1995) that Jolie was introduced to Jonny Lee Miller, a British
actor (married in 1996, divorced in 1999). The film did not find an audience,
as did the subsequent films. However, in 1997, Jolie garnered much attention
portraying the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor the television film
George Wallace, and she later was awarded the Golden Globe Award for her
portrayal. Jolie played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction in the HBO
movie Gia in 1999. This performance earned her numerous awards including an
award of the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999 she appeared
in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and the
following year , she was married to Billy Bob Thornton (divorced 2003).After
the Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie starred in a series of
action-oriented films. She played the wife of carjackers (Nicolas Cage) in Gone
in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopting an accent that resembled a British
accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing to play the roles of the
title in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle
of Life (2003). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's
Alexander (2004) and starred alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky
Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City).
Both films did poorly in terms of box-office revenue, however Jolie's Mr.
& Mrs. Smith (2005) was successful. Jolie played a character pretending
to be a normal housewife while she worked on the movie. Brad Pitt became her
partner in the film.
